St. Michael’s Legal Center also represents men. SMLC does not discriminate on the basis of sex.
Women and single mothers constitute the great majority of persons who need legal services in family law and cannot afford a lawyer. Because of this circumstance, when SMLC began, its clients were women. If a man needs assistance in family law, he can come to SMLC. St. Michael’s Legal Center for Women and Children strives to protect children and undergird family relationships, regardless of whether it is a man or a woman who needs our help.

Does St. Michael's Legal Center encourage dissolution of marriage?

No, but SMLC does sometime represent a party in a dissolution of marriage.

What documents does a potential client need before SMLC can represent the person in filing for dissolution of marriage?

The potential client must have a letter from a member of the clergy or a professional counselor stating the marriage is irretrievably broken before SMLC can represent a petitioner in a dissolution of marriage.
